Design Methodology develops theories and methods for architectural design of the built environment. Research and education is directed towards the designer's need for knowledge about both the process of design, and of buildings and users of the built environment. Specific directions are construction information and communication technology, ICT, architectural design, information systematic, design management, and industrialised building.
The research within the division aims at developing scientific and technological theories and methods of architectural design. We build on a systems theoretical and epistemological foundation which has proven to be applicable both in cross disciplinary cooperation and within the new field of ICT for building and facilities management.
Our research within ICT is directed towards model based representation of both the building and the user activities within the building, e.g. support for building programming, and Internet based information management and cooperation. We are also conducting research within the field of Design Management, e.g. concerning value creating cooperation in building projects. An important field of development is Building or Construction Informatics where we have participated in the development of both international standards for building classification and in the ongoing development of the Swedish system for building classification BSAB 96.
